A diversity of terroirs expressed in three different cuvees
Young, supple and fruity wines
These wines are the epitome of conviviality.
We want them to be enjoyable from a young age and to convey the true taste of the grape.
The whites are therefore aromatic with notes of white peach and apricot and a welcome freshness in the Languedoc climate.
The rosés are delicious and indulgent, full of fruit and perfect for accompanying pre-dinner drinks.
The red wine has great personality and the Morrastel grape variety expresses itself beautifully.
Blended with Carignan and Grenache, the result is a fresh wine full of red fruit flavours.
The personality wines that express terroir
Portalis refers to Jean-Baptiste PORTALIS, who built the cellar in 1920 based on the principle of gravity.
Used in all major estates, this principle allows the vinified juices to be transferred gently.
This pioneer was a member of the family who greatly developed the Valmagne vineyard.
The red wines are a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache.
Aromas of garrigue and red fruit are reflected on the palate, with supple tannins and lovely freshness.
There is no heaviness, over-ripeness or over-extraction; everything is very harmonious.
The white wines express Roussane and Marsanne.
The limestone of the upper slopes brings great minerality, which blends beautifully with floral notes.
The balance is perfect.
The rosé takes its name from the granddaughter of the Count of Turenne who bought the Abbey: Suzanne de Nicolaÿ.
Born Turenne, she married the Marquis de Nicolaÿ and had the small chapel attached to the church restored to maintain Valmagne’s sacred character, which had been lost during the Revolution.
This fine rosé is made by bleeding our Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache vats.
It is very fresh with aromas combining spices and red fruits, and has a long, precise palate.
The small volumes produced each year make this rosé an exceptional wine.
The wines of finesse and structure
The abbey became part of the family in 1838, when it was acquired by the Count of Turenne.
It seemed only natural to name one of our finest vintages after him.
The nose is clear, it combines aromas of breeding with flavors of red fruits and black sun-drenched; also come flavors of stone fruit slightly macerated (sloe and cherry).
At aeration, we find these farmhouse fragrances (cocoa beans and coffee with milk) with roasted, roasted and smoked notes.
Nice attack ample, full, fleshy which restores these fruity and Mediterranean perfumes.
The evolution is more robust, the dense material integrates tannins present and quality.
There is certainly power and virility in contrast there is freshness and a nice aromatic spectrum.
The set still has all the ingredients to age well.
Final on spices and farm notes.
The son of the Count of Turenne was named Edmond, and we dedicate our grand white wine to him.
Production is low, and the 1,500 bottles produced annually are prized by lovers of fine white wines.
The Roussane grape variety grown on garrigue terroir expresses itself with great finesse.
Light barrel ageing brings complexity and elegance to the notes of fennel and acacia.
The great wines
Cardinal Pierre de Bonzi was the governor of the states of Languedoc under Louis XIV.
According to Saint Simon he was the real representative of the king in Languedoc and he made Valmagne his place of privileged residence.
When the vintage is exceptional, we make a fine selection of our best plots to produce this great wine.
The garnet has a surprising youth, very deep with nuances on the black cherry, a high viscosity with multiple tears.
Nose very expressive, racy and elegant we start on the perfumes of black fruits very walls (blackberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry), cherry stone fruit, macerated fruit, then comes a balsamic register of the most beautiful effect (garrigue, thyme, laurel, cade, juniper wood and black olives) and then go on to well-integrated farming notes (smoked, toasted, toasted roasted and mocha).
A wine that sends heavy with impunity both in terms of structure and perfumes.
This is undoubtedly a great wine, with power, of course, but also smoothness, fullness and a delicious, fruity Mediterranean aromatic palette.
It is a rich wine with opulent body and velvety tannins.
Very long finish with spices and very persistent chocolate, vanilla and smoky notes.
